Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival is originated from the play that people float yudeung(Korean lantern) on the Namgang during the Jinju Fortress Battle of Imjinwaeran War. When Admiral Kim Si-min won a victory at the Battle of Jinju in 1592, the yuduengs were used as a signal, a military tactics for blocking Japan's rivercrossing operations, a means of communication for letting people know how one is. In 1593, after the Jinju Castle fell into Japan's hands, setting yudeungs afloat on the river became an event, Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival, which pays our respects to the souls of the citizens of that time and all the fallen heroes who died protecting their homeland ever since.

The festival holds various features. You can hang wish-lanterns, float yudeungs by yourself. There will also be free shuttle buses.
